Increasing Your Metabolism to Burn More Fat

We have all seen the people who can eat anything they want and still maintain a healthy weight. They eat cake and pizza and don’t gain a pound. What’s their secret? Do they have an eating disorder that you don’t know about? Are they taking a new, top-secret diet pill that lets them eat all day and never work out? Chances are those are both wrong and they just have a high, or fast, metabolism. This means that they are burning calories faster than normal and they don’t have to work as hard to do it.

If you have been plagued with a slower metabolism your whole life and thought that you couldn’t do anything about it, the information you read next will dramatically change your life. Following some easy steps, you will be able to speed up your metabolism and start seeing faster results than you ever thought possible.

-          Carry more muscle mass. The old saying holds true, muscle burns more calories than fat. This is not just while working out, it is when you are at rest also. Lean body mass contributes to how fast or how slow your metabolic rate is. Add strength training exercises into your fitness regimen and watch as the pounds start to come off much easier and in less time than ever before.

-          Stay away from very low calorie diets. It may seem like a good idea to cut way back on calories while dieting and trying to lose weight, but a low calorie diet actually slows down your metabolic rate decreasing the chance that you will burn those calories any faster.

-          While we are on the topic of calories, don’t skip meals. This is very important. Your body is very efficient and by skipping meals, you are not helping your body at all. Your body will go into a “fasting” mode and slow down its systems including the one responsible for burning calories. Your best bet would be to delay breakfast for an hour or so and eat smaller meals throughout the day to keep your body energized and your metabolism running in high gear.

-          Get enough rest. I don’t think any of us get enough sleep at night due to daily stress, being overworked or just having a busy family life. The body needs 7-9 hours of sleep every night to operate at peak performance. Too little sleep and your metabolism will slow way down.

-          Reduce your levels of stress. A lot of stress is like not enough sleep. It will slow down your metabolism and actually cause you to gain more weight. Try to take time every day to relax and reduce your stress levels, your body will thank you.
