If you are anything like me, you probably spend hours at the gym each week working out to stay in shape and feel better. You think that the only way to be healthy is through major life-style changes, a healthy diet and working out. Think again, there are many small things that you can do to improve your overall health and well-being and they don’t take much time or effort. In fact, you probably do them on occasion right now without even realizing the benefits they hold.
Here are 5 little things that make a big difference to your health:
- Flossing more regularly. This one sounds like a given, but many people don’t floss on a regular basis. Flossing is an easy way to not only keep your mouth healthy, but your body as well. It removes harmful bacteria from your mouth before it has a chance to enter your bloodstream and make you ill.
- Eating more frequently throughout the day can keep you healthier and will increase your metabolism which can lead to a reduction in your weight. Eating every three hours during the day usually translates to about three meals and a couple of healthy snacks. The meals will become smaller over time as your body gets accustomed to the new eating schedule.
- Change your breakfast cereal. By changing from cold cereal or instant oatmeal to healthier, steel-cut oats, you will feel full longer and the additional fiber will do your body good.
- Make your own coffee. By making your coffee at home, you not only save money over getting it at the local café, but you also save on calories by not buying all of the extras like donuts and other pastries.
- Have a concert at dinnertime. Studies have shown that by playing classical music at dinner helps keep you from eating too fast and too much. This is due to the beat of the music, faster music will make you eat faster and slower music will make you eat slower. Our bodies chew with the music and mimic it which is why this is a very easy and effective way to control your eating habits.
So there you have it, five ways that you can live healthier and feel better without putting too much effort into it. Take a look around your house and see if you can come up with any more things such as having to walk farther or reach higher to get something, every little bit adds up.
